He was directly involved in updating the process for both organizations to take advantage of the latest technologies and he spent time on the road actually managing and recording the auditions. Mr. Farrell has prior experience as an orchestra personnel manager, a general manager, a music librarian, an education director as well as a musician that has auditioned for these festivals, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the industry. Jill Kahanek, Vice-President and COO, is the former Director of Emerging Artist Programs for the Henry Mancini Institute (HMI). During her tenure, she was responsible for the overall recruitment strategy and facilitation of the audition and selection process for the Summer Education Program including the development of recruitment materials, application processes and audition requirements as well as the strategization and implementation of the audition tour. She grew the audition tour from nine domestic locations proctored by host-school volunteers to a thirteen city international tour for which she served personally as facilitator and preliminary adjudicator. This personalized approach to the audition and selection process was beneficial to both the applicants and the HMI. It created a consistency in the audition format while providing a welcoming and supportive environment for the applicants allowing them to give their very best performance. In turn, the HMI was able to streamline its selection process by having staff, each well versed in the standards of the program, collaborating with individual faculty members for selection of the most well-rounded and talented candidates. Mrs. Kahanek’s experience also includes her role as VP of Marketing and Artist Relations for Sidewindermusic Records, a small independent record label, and as former Director of Development for Henry Mancini Enterprises. She received a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Syracuse University and a Master of Music in Performance from the State University of New York at Purchase College where she was a student of Burt Lucarelli.
